MINUTES OF MONTHLY MEETING OF NORTHEASTERN WISCONSIN AREA LOCAL #2247

 

Date:  Wednesday, February 19th, 2020

Place:  Denny’s

President Kelly Heaney called the meeting to order at 1450 hours.

A quorum was declared with 14 members in attendance.  

Kelly Heaney led the Pledge of Allegiance and Steve Paradise gave the Invocation.  

The following officers were present: 

President Kelly Heaney, Vice President Dave Kroll, Secretary/Treasurer Robert Olson, Recording Secretary Jenny Starry, Clerk Craft Director Steve Paradise, Motor Vehicle Craft Director Jeremy Linberg and Maintenance Craft Director Pete Knutson.  Bay Breeze Editor Kelsey Helf was excused.  

Minutes of the January 2020 meeting were printed in the Bay Breeze.   

 A motion was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Bryce Thomas to accept the minutes.  Motion passed unanimously.    

The financial report for January 2020 was read by Secretary/Treasurer Robert Olson.

REPORTS 

Executive Committee:  The e-board recommends buying 5 tickets to the Legislative Breakfast at the Labor Temple on Saturday, March 28th.  

A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Pete Knutson to suspend the order of business to order food.  Motion passed unanimously.  

 A motion was made by Art Ciesielczyk and seconded by Deb Nehmer to resume the order of business.  Motion passed unanimously.  

Labor/Management:   Revised schedules were discussed.  Make sure you have them signed by a steward.  Steward time, OT admin, employee engagement and plowing of the parking lot were discussed.   

Grievance:   Two step 3’s went out for abolishing a MOS clerk and a BEM job.  A step 2 went out to save a custodian job. OT grievances are being filed.  Grievances are being filed for being required to bring in documentation. Ask why you need documentation if you are told to.  Restricted sick leave, showing a pattern or being denied AL and then calling in are the only reasons they can make you bring in documentation.  

Safety/Health:  Salting the sidewalks was discussed.    

Legislative:  Steve Paradise gave the legislative report.  H.R. 2382, USPS Fairness Act, passed the House and now goes to the Senate.  Mike Gallagher voted against this. USPS employees are encouraged to call your Senator on February 25th and tell them to support the Senate companion bill S. 2965.  Over 400,000 signatures were collected for the petition that the USPS hire a Postmaster General who supports the public postal service.

Communications:   We received a thank you letter from the House of Hope for our donation.  

UNFINISHED BUSINESS    

The State Convention was discussed.  

 NEW BUSINESS  

A motion was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Dave Kroll to purchase 5 $10 tickets to the Greater Green Bay Labor Council Legislative Breakfast on Saturday, March 28th at the Labor Temple.  Motion passed unanimously.  

OTHER BUSINESS 

MM’s and BEM’s were discussed.  There is a plan to change the name of the Green Bay Processing and Distribution Center to the Green Bay Processing Facility and change Oshkosh to the Green Bay/Oshkosh Annex.  This is so the transportation times can be changed.  

 NEXT MEETING

A motion was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Chris Opolka to have the next meeting on Thursday, March 19th at 11 am at Denny’s.  Motion passed unanimously.

ADJOURNMENT 

A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Sue Pranke to adjourn the meeting.  Motion passed unanimously. NEWAL meeting adjourned at 1575 hours.   

 The $10 door prize was won by Pete Knutson.
