MINUTES OF MONTHLY MEETING OF NORTHEASTERN WISCONSIN AREA LOCAL #2247
Date: Wednesday, February 16th, 2022
Place: Gallagher’s
President Kelly Heaney called the meeting to order at 1 pm.
A quorum was declared with 22 members in attendance.
Kelly Heaney led the Pledge of Allegiance and Dave Villwock gave the Invocation.
The following officers were present: President Kelly Heaney, Secretary/Treasurer Art Ciesielczyk, Recording Secretary Jenny Starry, Clerk Craft Director Chris Opolka, Maintenance Craft Director Lance Bouyear, Vice President Dave Kroll was excused and Bay Breeze Editor Kelsey Helf resigned.
Minutes of the January 2022 meeting were read by Kelly. A motion was made by Dave Villwock and seconded by Pam Krause to accept the minutes. Motion passed.
The financial report for January was read by Secretary/Treasurer Art Ciesielczyk.
Executive Committee: The e-board discussed the staffing shortage and the State Convention.
Labor/Management: Some items discussed were humidifiers, employee burnout, short staffing and outer office and other crafts helping, fixing DBCS racks, SOP’s for training, asbestos, residual jobs, broken toilets, alcohol wipes by machines. The minutes are posted.
Grievance: The sub-contracting grievance for $15,000 was paid out to 3 employees at Cofrin. A grievance was filed on the 126 swipe operation, which is a mail handler code.
Safety/Health: If you get hurt, report it immediately.
Legislative: The House approved the Postal Service Reform Act that requires the Postal Service to pre-fund healthcare. This bill also forces retirees to get Medicare. Call your Senator and tell them to support this bill.
OWCP: If you have or had Covid, file an OWCP claim. There are pamphlets in the breakroom or on apwu.org.
Constitution:

Lost Members: Kelsey Helf resigned.

The NEWAL’s website is www.newal.org. The staff shortage in the plant was discussed. The new contract and the MOU’s were discussed. Faith Ness gave a report on the steward training and the grievance writing training she attended and Dave Villwock gave a report on the grievance writing training and maintenance training he attended at the Akey Seminar last October in the Dells.
NEXT MEETING
A motion was made by Karilee Hookana and seconded by Pam Krause to have the next meeting on Wednesday, March 23rd at 1pm at Gallagher’s. Motion passed.
ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Pam Krause and seconded by Clade Adkins to adjourn the meeting. Motion passed. Meeting was adjourned at 2:55 pm.
The $10 door prize was won by Chester Czyz.
The t-shirt/beanie door prize winners were Clade Adkins and Albert Shamah.
The $340 rolling jackpot winner was Bill Curtis. He was not present so it will be $360 at the next meeting.
