MINUTES OF MONTHLY MEETING OF NORTHEASTERN WISCONSIN AREA LOCAL #2247

Date:  Wednesday January 11th, 2023

Place:  Gallagher’s.

President Kelly Heaney called the meeting to order at 4 pm.

A quorum was declared with 17 members in attendance. 

Kelly Heaney led the Pledge of Allegiance and Andrew Prescher gave the Invocation. 

The following officers were present:  President Kelly Heaney, Secretary/Treasurer Art Ciesielczyk, Recording Secretary Jenny Starry, Bay Breeze Editor Bill Kabacinski, Maintenance Craft Director Lance Bouyear and Clerk Craft Director Jenny Ewald.  Vice President Dave Kroll was excused.

Minutes of the November 2022 meeting were printed in the Bay Breeze.  A motion was made by Bill Kabacinski and seconded by Clade Adkins to accept the minutes.  Motion passed. 

The financial reports for November and December were read by Secretary/Treasurer Art Ciesielczyk.  

Executive Committee:  The e-board recommendations are to spend up to $5000 on the picnic, to spend up to $1000 on a kids Christmas party, to send up to 2 members to spring training in Stevens Point, to send Jenny to the Health Plan Seminar in Vegas in October, to send Art to sec/treas training in New Orleans in April, to send up to 2 members to the Akey fall seminar in Minneapolis, and to send the president plus 1 to the National Convention in Vegas in October.

Labor/Management:  Some items discussed were hiring events, the union not being notified before PSE conversions, plants no longer get notified when clerks reach 25 years, detail opportunities not posted, mandatory overtime, guest wi-fi, PSE canvassing, signage in lobby not updated, and how to recruit new employees i.e., news, farmers market, newspapers.          

Grievance:  8 non-compliance tacs grievances were won.  Crossing craft grievances are still being filed, step 3’s were filed for displacement.  Several maintenance grievances were filed.  A non-compliance for Kelly Page’s job, and EAS doing clerk work.  95% of step 3’s are being won by the union. 

Safety/Health:  If you get hurt at work, make sure you have a witness and tell a supervisor immediately.  Fill out 1767’s for any hazards inside or outside the building, including pot holes in the driveway.                    

Legislative:  There is an opening for a member of the APWU to be a delegate on the Greater Green Bay Area  Labor Council AFL-CIO.  Contact them if you’re interested.  920-432-0053, ggblcouncil@sbc-global.net, 1570 Elizabeth St.

A motion was made by Bill Kabacinski and seconded by Jon Hasart to spend up to $5000 on the picnic on Sunday, August 5th.  Motion passed.

A motion was made by Bill Kabacinski and seconded by Jesse Weber to spend up to $1000 on a bowling/Christmas party.  Motion passed.

A motion was made by Jenny Ewald and seconded by Andrew Prescher to send up to 2 members to the spring training seminar in Stevens Point to include lost time, per diem, transportation, registration and lodging.  Motion passed. 

A motion was made by Jenny Ewald and seconded by Bill Kabacinski to send up to 2 members to the Akey fall training seminar in Minneapolis to include lost time, per diem, transportation, registration and lodging.  Motion passed. 

A motion was made by Bill Kabacinski and seconded by Art Ciesielczyk to send Jenny Starry to the Health Plan Seminar in Las Vegas in October to include lost time, per diem, transportation, registration and lodging.  Motion passed. 

A motion was made by Jenny Ewald and seconded by Jon Hasart to send the President plus 1 to the National Convention, to include training, in Las Vegas in October to include lost time, per diem, transportation, registration and lodging.  Motion passed.

A motion was made by Jenny Ewald and seconded by Clade Adkins to send Art Ciesielczyk to sec/treas training in New Orleans in April to include lost time, per diem, transportation, registration and lodging.  Motion passed.  `

OTHER BUSINESS   

A vote was taken and it was decided that anyone with restrictions of 50 hours or more will be part of the crossing crafts grievances. 

NEXT MEETING

A motion was made by Art Ciesielczyk and seconded by Jesse Weber to have the next meeting on Monday, February 27th at 7 pm at Gallagher’s.  Motion passed. 

ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Art Ciesielczyk and seconded by Bill Kabacinski to adjourn the meeting.  Meeting was adjourned at 5:35 pm.  Motion passed.  

The $10 door prize was won by Lance Bouyear.

The t-shirt/beanie prize winners were Art Ciesielczyk and Bill Kabacinski.

The two winners of the $50 VOE survey drawing were Kelly Armstrong and Faith Ness.

Sticks were drawn for the 2 $25 gift cards left from the last meeting and the winners were Pete Knutson and Sally Kim. 

The $180 rolling jackpot winner was Greg Hensel.  He was not present so it will be $200 at the next meeting.
