MINUTES OF MONTHLY MEETING OF NORTHEASTERN WISCONSIN AREA LOCAL #2247

 

Date:  Sunday, July 22nd, 2018

Place:  The Labor Temple

President Kelly Heaney called the meeting to order at 1900 hours.

A quorum was declared with 15 members in attendance.

Kelly Heaney led the Pledge of Allegiance and Steve Paradise led the Invocation.

The following officers were present:

President Kelly Heaney, Vice President Steve Paradise, Secretary/Treasurer Robert Olson, Recording Secretary Jenny Starry, Bay Breeze Editor Kelsey Helf, Clerk Craft Director Dave Kroll, and Maintenance Craft Director Lance Bouyear, Motor Vehicle Craft Director Jeremy Linberg was absent.

Minutes of the June 2018 meeting were printed in the Bay Breeze.

A motion was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Nick Ratajczyk to accept the minutes.  Motion passed unanimously.

The financial report for June 2018 was read by Secretary/Treasurer Robert Olson.

REPORTS

Executive Committee:   The e-board discussed purchasing totes for the papers in the storage shed. The e-board recommends sending Jenny Starry to San Antonio in October for the APWU Health Insurance Seminar, skipping the August meeting and having the next one on Thursday, September 27th at 11am at Denny’s, and endorsing Mahlon Mitchell for Governor.

Labor/Management:   Kelly Heaney and Steve Paradise attended the labor/management meeting.  PSE training, disinfectants in the break room, keeping partners together on machines, running machines with one person, running the DIOSS in DBCS mode, PSE’s not working 12 hours on holidays, the salad bar not being manned at all times, creating more full-time customer service jobs, PSE conversions/transfers ratio, changing PSE schedules, plant employees going to customer service, and the temperature in the back of the building were all discussed.

Grievance:    Grievances are being filed on PSE’s working more than 8 hours.   Crossing crafts grievances are still being filed.

Automation:

Safety/Health:    The safety slogan contest was discussed.

Legislative:    Steve Paradise gave the legislative report.  The Stop Postal Closures Act H.R. 6282, bipartisan legislation to end the misguided closure and consolidations of mail processing facilities across the country was reintroduced.  The resolution H.R. 993 was introduced to help combat a proposal by President Trump to privatize the Postal Service.  H.R. 6275, the Federal Employees Paid Parental Leave Act of 2018, was introduced.  This would provide federal employees with 12 weeks of paid leave to care for their new child in the event of a birth, adoption or foster placement.  NEWAL members are encouraged to contact Congressman Mike Gallagher’s office at 920-301-4500 in Green Bay or 920-903-9806 in Appleton to tell him to support these.

OWCP:  

Constitution:  Table the constitution committee appointees until next meeting.

Lost Members: 

Communications:   The AFL-CIO Wisconsin State Legislature Voting Record is in the union office if anyone wants to look at it.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

NEW BUSINESS

A motion was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Dave Kroll to have our local endorse Mahlon Mitchell for Governor.  Motion passed unanimously.

A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Nick Ratajczyk to send Jenny Starry to the APWU Health Plan Open Season Seminar in San Antonio, Texas on October 26th-28th to include air fare, lost time, per diem, transportation, registration, and lodging.  Motion passed unanimously.

A motion was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Nick Ratajczyk to cancel the August meeting.  Motion passed unanimously.

A motion was made by Steve Paradis and seconded by Nick Ratajczyk to have the next meeting on Thursday, September 27nd at 11am at Denny’s.   Motion passed unanimously.

Totes will be purchased for up to $300 for the papers in the storage shed.

OTHER BUSINESS  

Help is needed to set up and clean up at the Union Picnic.

Clerks doing mail handler was discussed.

 

ADJOURNMENT  

A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Steve Paradise to adjourn the meeting.  Motion passed unanimously.  NEWAL meeting adjourned.

The $10 door prize was won by Art Ciesielczyk.
