MINUTES OF MONTHLY MEETING OF NORTHEASTERN WISCONSIN AREA LOCAL #2247
Date: Tuesday, July 20th, 2021
Place: Gallagher’s
President Kelly Heaney called the meeting to order at 2:30 pm.
A quorum was declared with 17 members in attendance.
Kelly Heaney led the Pledge of Allegiance and Steve Paradise gave the Invocation.
The following officers were present:
President Kelly Heaney, Vice President Dave Kroll, Secretary/Treasurer Art Ciesielczyk, Recording Secretary Jenny Starry and Clerk Craft Director Steve Paradise. Bay Breeze Editor Kelsey Helf and Motor Vehicle Craft Director Jeremy Linberg were excused.
Minutes of the June 2021 meeting were read by Jenny Starry. A motion was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Donna Hansen to accept the minutes. Motion passed unanimously.
The financial report for June was read by Secretary/Treasurer Art Ciesielczyk.
Executive Committee: The e-board recommends to allow Bryce Thomas to take a webinar on the election process, sending 6 people to the Akey Seminar in Wisconsin Dells on October 13th -15th, to pay shipping cost for the union apparel, for Art to be paid for a dues checkoff webinar he took, to pay for flowers sent for the death of retired member Tom Sharpe’s wife and not having a meeting in August. They also discussed the Biebel’s catering bill for the picnic and awarding the Tony Van Scholarships at the picnic.
Labor/Management: Items discussed were excessive overtime, getting an EAP counselor at the plant, mail handlers and PIT equipment, masks, implementing 302 stackers for all machines and Wausau mail, and a daily overtime list.
Grievance: Many grievances are being files for discipline and overtime.
Safety/Health: OSHA was here in May about the PIT equipment. There is no report on this yet. If you get hurt, report it immediately.
Legislative: Steve Paradise gave the legislative report. He recommended joining NARFE if you’re within 5 years of retiring. The magazine is very informative. There are free retirement seminars you can attend. He recommended calling Senator Tammy Baldwin and tell her to support HR 695 Senate Bill 145 that requires pre-funding health insurance and HR 304, the Equal COLA Act.

NEW BUSINESS
A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Art Ciesielczyk to send up to 6 members to the Akey seminar in Wisconsin Dells October 12th – 15th to include lost time, per diem, parking, transportation, registration and lodging. Motion passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Dave Villwock to pay up to $750 for shipping for union logo apparel from Waterloo, IA to Green Bay. Motion passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Donna Hansen to allow Election Committee Chairman Bryce Thomas to attend Election Process webinar to include lost time or payment at straight time rate if not during work hours for up to 3 hours on September 8th. Motion passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Dave Villwock to amend a previous motion to buy retirees a $100 gift card to a business of their choice and not just a restaurant. Motion passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Steve Paradise to pay for flowers that were purchased for the passing of Tom Sharpe’s wife. Motion passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Kelly Armstrong to pay Art Ciesielczyk for a Dues Check-Off webinar that he took on his regular scheduled day for 3 hours at his straight time rate. Motion passed unanimously.
OTHER BUSINESS
The RI-399 disputes have all been settled. There is now language saying that any incoming pallets done on low cost or dirty sort is clerk work. Mail handlers will now bring empty equipment to the machines.
Bryce Thomas has been appointed Election Committee Chairman and Pam Krause and Leann Adams will be on the committee.
Dave Villwock has been appointed as Maintenance Craft Director.
The re-posting of jobs was discussed.
NEXT MEETING
A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Dave Villwock to have the next meeting on Sunday, September 19th at 7 pm at Gallagher’s. Motion passed with 15 yea’s and 2 nays.
ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Pam Krause and seconded by Donna Hansen to adjourn the meeting. Motion passed unanimously. NEWAL meeting adjourned at 3:45 pm.
The $10 door prize was won by Steve Paradise.
The $220 rolling jackpot winner was Steve Tauscher. He was not present so it will be $240 at the next meeting.
