MINUTES OF MONTHLY MEETING OF NORTHEASTERN WISCONSIN AREA LOCAL #2247

Date:  Thursday, March 25th, 2021

Place:  Gallagher’s

President Kelly Heaney called the meeting to order at 2:30 pm.

A quorum was declared with 18 members in attendance. 

Kelly Heaney led the Pledge of Allegiance and Steve Paradise gave the Invocation. 

The following officers were present:

President Kelly Heaney, Vice President Dave Kroll, Secretary/Treasurer Art Ciesielczyk, Recording Secretary Jenny Starry, Bay Breeze Editor Kelsey Helf, and Clerk Craft Director Steve Paradise.  Motor Vehicle Craft Director Jeremy Linberg was excused.  

Minutes of the February 2021 meeting were read by Recording Secretary Jenny Starry.  A motion was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Dave Kroll to accept the minutes.  Motion passed unanimously. 

 The financial report for February was read by Secretary/Treasurer Art Ciesielczyk.  

Executive Committee:   The e-board discussed the shirts and hoodies, paying chief stewards more money, and the summer picnic. 

Labor/Management:  Getting an ice machine was discussed.  Jeff G. asked if the union would be willing to chip in for this.   The vehicles and the cones in the parking lot and not having enough parking spaces was discussed.   

Grievance:  Displacement grievances are being filed.  Several maintenance grievances are at step 2 and 3.        

Safety/Health:   Tell management if you’re having pain from doing continual repetitive motion.  So if you do need to seek treatment, it will be documented.             

Legislative:  Steve Paradise gave the legislative report.  He talked about COVID leave.  Make sure you’re getting paid admin leave and they’re not taking your leave or a grievance can be filed.  The liberal leave policy has been extended until June 4th.  Contact Senator Tammy Baldwin and urge Congress to support the PRO Act, Protecting the Right to Organize Act.  You can join live with APWU President Mark Diamondstein on March 31st in response to DeJoy’s 10-year plan.  Register at APWU.org.

Communications:  We received a thank you letter from the American Red Cross for our donation for the relief efforts in Texas.

NEW BUSINESS

Dave Kroll talked about the shirts, hoodies and hats.  He found a union print shop that we will be ordering from.  It was decided that every member will get $60 to spend.  If you want to spend more than $60, it will be your own money.  We will have sample sizes for all to see soon. 

A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Art Ciesielczyk to spend an additional $4000 on union clothing so each member on the rolls on April 15th, 2021 will get $60 to spend.  Motion passed unanimously. 

A motion was made by Art Ciesielczyk and seconded by Greg Hensel to pay $90 to join the Wisconsin Alliance for Retired Americans.  Motion passed unanimously. 

A motion was made by Art Ciesielczyk and seconded by Dave Kroll to add to the Standing Book of Resolutions that Chief Stewards will be paid $120 per month, in addition to any meeting pay that they receive.  Motion passed unanimously.  See attached. 

A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Art Ciesielczyk to give a $100 gift certificate to the restaurant of their choice to each member who retires from this date forward.  Motion passed unanimously.

NEXT MEETING

A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Steve Paradise to have the next meeting on Tuesday, April 27th at 2:30 pm at Gallagher’s.  Motion passed unanimously. 

ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Dave Kroll to adjourn the meeting.  Motion passed unanimously.  NEWAL meeting adjourned at 3:50 pm.

The $10 door prize was won by Kelsey Helf.

The $140 rolling jackpot winner was Christie Kane.  She was not present so it will be $160 next month.
