MINUTES OF MONTHLY MEETING OF NORTHEASTERN WISCONSIN AREA LOCAL #2247

 

Date:  Sunday, October 21st, 2018

Place:  The Labor Temple

President Kelly Heaney called the meeting to order at 1900 hours.

A quorum was declared with 11 members in attendance.

Kelly Heaney led the Pledge of Allegiance and Dave Villwock led the Invocation.

The following officers were present:

President Kelly Heaney, Vice President Steve Paradise, Secretary/Treasurer Robert Olson, Recording Secretary Jenny Starry, Clerk Craft Director Dave Kroll, and Maintenance Craft Director Lance Bouyear.  Bay Breeze Editor Kelsey Helf and Motor Vehicle Craft Director Jeremy Linberg were excused.

Minutes of the September 2018 meeting were read by Jenny Starry.

A motion was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Nick Ratajczyk to accept the minutes.  Motion passed unanimously.

The financial report for September 2018 was read by Secretary/Treasurer Robert Olson.

REPORTS

Executive Committee:   The e-board discussed the Constitution Committee and the overcrowding of the storage unit.

Labor/Management:   The minutes are posted on the board.  Confusion over the hatch act, promoting a clerk to a lead clerk, lead clerks doing TACS training, the leaking pole by DBCS 12, the ratio of transfers to PSE’s being promoted, Cofrin staffing related to Amazon, running the DIOSS in DBCS mode, the employee parking lot and PSE scheduling for the holidays were discussed.

Grievance:   Grievances are still being filed for PSE’s in excess of 8 hours before using the ODL.

Automation:    If you are told to run by yourself and it’s over 30 minutes, ask to see a steward.

Legislative:    Steve Paradise gave the legislative report.  The Trump administration announced Wednesday, October 17th, that the US will withdraw from the Universal Postal union (UPI), the organization that coordinates postal policy around the world.  The UPI sets technical and security standards that both post offices and private companies use.  There is a booklet about the Hatch Act in the union office.  Steve encouraged that all NEWAL members get out and vote on November 6, 2018.

OWCP:  

Constitution:   The constitution committee will be meeting soon.  One of the items being discussed will be changing the date when elections are held.

NEW BUSINESS

There’s an RI-399 meeting in Atlantic City on November 14, 2018 that Kelly may attend.

A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Lance Bouyear to spend up to $300 for expenses for the constitution committee.  Motion passed unanimously.

A motion was made by Donna Hansen and seconded by Nick Ratajczyk to in lieu of a children’s Christmas party to have NEWAL members take their children or grandchildren age 12 & under to ring bells for the Salvation Army and receive a gift for up to $25.  Motion passed unanimously.

A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Steve Paradise to buy 20 $20 gift cards to be given away at the November meeting for Thanksgiving.  Motion passed unanimously.

A motion was made by Donna Hansen and seconded by Chris Bouyear to have the next meeting on Sunday, November 18th  at 7pm at the Labor Temple.   Motion passed unanimously.

A motion was made by Dave Kroll and seconded by Chris Bouyear to adjourn the meeting.  Motion passed unanimously.  NEWAL meeting adjourned.

The $10 door prize was won by Jenny Starry.
